The film 'Demons Never Die' is a british based horror/thriller film, the opening establishes:
- CHARACTER, MOST IF NOT ALL CHARACTERS ARE SHOWN IN DIFFERENT WAYS WHICH SIGNIFY WHAT SORT OF CHARACTERS THEY ARE, FOR EXAMPLE WHEN JACK DOOLAN WALKS IN HE'S VERY SUB CONSCIOUS AND KEEPS LOOKING TO THE FLOOR.
- THE COSTUME CHOICE ALSO ESTABLISHES CHARACTERS E.G. ASHLEY WALTERS AND REGGIE YATES WEAR SMART CLOTHES, SUIT, SMART JACKET...ETC CONNOTING THAT THEY ARE OF A HIGHER STATUS OR AUTHORITY
- WHEN NAMES APPEAR ON SCREEN THERE IS A NOISE OF A BLADE BEING SLICED, THIS CONNOTES THE USE OF KNIVES AND BLADES IN THE FILM YET TO COME
- IT ALSO ESTABLISHES THE GRUESOME KNIFE USE, YET TO COME
- THE CHOICE OF SOUND IS VERY UPBEAT AND EDGY, PLAYING TO THE THRILLER EDGY SENSATION
From the use of the hints at a knife connoting and establishing things yet to come, we incorporated this idea into our film opening. We decided that the Reaper would have a knife at the beginning. The knife would signify what is yet to come in the film which is the killing (with the use of a knife) of a woman.
