Shooting drug scene research 1

Shooting drug scene research 1
'PULP FICTION'

The shot of the drug scene will make or break my groups film. Such a scene must have the correct elements in order to convey the correct message we want to send out to the viewer.

Pulp fiction touches on the topic of drug use. The director glamorises drugs by placing great emphasis on the preparation of the drug and also the high the drug causes.

He does this by manipulating all the elements he has at his disposal.  For example, the scene consisted of allot of extreme close ups of the drug paraphernalia and close ups of the drug users face, allowing the viewer to see the drug paraphernalia in all its glory and also the drug users emotion of bliss.

The director uses editing in order to place greater emphasis on the preparation of the drug. It is almost like he lingers over the shots of the drug paraphernalia. By doing this he almost makes the preparation of the drug as an art. The non diegetic sound is some what mellow, it almost puts the viewer into a trance. One could argue the director uses sound to put the viewer in a trance like state so that they can partake in the high the main character is experiencing.
